Recognizing Women in the City
“Place des Montréalaises will transform the urban landscape of Montréal by linking the city’s downtown and Old Montréal – its historic center. The design for this inclusive public space reframes the women of Montréal at the heart of the city’s evolution. Through the work of a collaboration of women, the public memory of women in the city’s history is being rewritten through two radically different topographies in a convergence of Montreal-inspired subtleties. This presentation will discuss the evolution of the project since being awarded the international design competition in 2018 and how cities can recognize women in both the literal and metaphorical heart of the city.”
